Let me direct to the most beautiful beaches on the
planet and other great wedding locations. First let's find the beach in
front of the Maui Prince Hotel, Maluaka Beach. This is one of
Makena's picture postcard-like spots..
North Maluaka
Drive past the resorts in Wailea and go to Honoiki street just
before the Maui Prince Hotel. Turn right on Honoiki street and
take it to the ocean road. Turn left and drive through the the
residential area a couple of blocks and past the Keawala'i
church. Proceed a few blocks to the turnaround and access to the
beach. This area is referred to as North Maluaka. The north end
to the right pictures driftwood and lava rock. The southern exposure
looks toward Puu Olai. Both offer incredibly beautiful
backgrounds for your Maui Wedding..........Next, lets check out the
south end.access which is past the hotel.
South Maluaka
Go back to Honoiki St. and turn right. Drive 6 tenths of a mile past past the Maui Prince
Hotel. Turn right into the dead end parking lot. If you should
happen to pass this access road you will find yourself at Makena State
Park. Turn around and go back approx. 2 miles. Watch for that
turnoff (now to the left) that will lead you to the golf/beach
parking. Park as close to the hotel as you can and walk down the
cobblestone walkway toward the hotel. Turn left by the restrooms
and showers. You will notice a private circle area surrounded by
shrubbery to the right. To the left looking south you
will notice a large green park area with three picnic tables.
Choose one of these picnic areas for your Maui Wedding if you
like. The focal point of the park is that cliff area to the
far left bordering the Golf course and overlooking the beach. Let's
continue south to the nicest beach on Maui..
Big Beach
Makena State Park or 'Big Beach' is approx. two miles south of
the Maui Prince Hotel. The south end of the Beach is the most private.
To access to the south end of the beach drive past the first two
parking lots. Park at the chain link fence oceanside (makai) just
before the first house on the right. Take one of the pathways
down to the beach. Notice the black lava rocks to the left. Beautiful!
Let's now check out a spot you might hear referred to as 'secret spot' or Makena Cove. Watch carefully. You might drive past this entrance, missing it from the road. The landmark to this dramatic site would be the first house on the left past Big Beach. It is less then 1/4 of a mile from Big Beach. You will notice a lava rock wall ocean side (makai). Enter the beach through the opening in the wall. We could stand in the sandy spot on top of the lava hill to the far left and the waves would be crashing below us. Dramatic!
